Egypt Signs USD 500 Million Wheat Purchase Deal With UAE
The five-year financing programme will allocate around USD 100 million annually for wheat purchases from UAE-based Al Dahra.
An executive contract has been signed with UAE-based Al Dahra to supply imported wheat to Egypt under a five-year financing programme worth USD 500 million.
The programme, provided by the Abu Dhabi Exports Office, will allocate around USD 100 million annually to the General Authority for Supply Commodities to finance wheat purchases from Al Dahra.
The Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade said the arrangement is intended to support the country’s ability to secure wheat supplies and maintain the availability of the strategic commodity.
By spreading the financing across five years, the agreement establishes a longer-term framework for part of the General Authority for Supply Commodities’ imported wheat purchases rather than relying solely on shorter-term procurement arrangements.
The authority is one of the main bodies responsible for securing essential commodities in Egypt, including wheat used in the production of subsidised bread.
Under the programme, purchases from Al Dahra will be financed within the annual USD 100 million allocation, bringing the total value of the facility to USD 500 million over the five-year period.
