Egypt Media Regulator Probes Elham Shahin Complaint Against Mansour
The actress has asked Egypt’s media regulator to review Mansour’s Facebook content and block his verified account.
Egypt’s Supreme Council for Media Regulation has received a complaint from actress Elham Shahin against lawyer and former Zamalek president Mortada Mansour over remarks and posts published on his verified Facebook page.
The council referred the complaint to its Complaints Committee, chaired by vice-president Essam El-Amir, to take the necessary legal measures. Shahin has asked the council to review Mansour’s online content, block his account and notify the Public Prosecution of its findings so they can be added to a separate complaint she has already filed with the prosecutor-general’s office.
The dispute began after Mansour criticised the appearances of several actresses at the ninth El Gouna Film Festival. It escalated following comments Shahin made at the 11th Sharm El-Sheikh International Theatre Festival for Youth about social media personalities filming people in public and the use of inappropriate language when addressing journalists.
Mansour later published a lengthy Facebook post addressing Shahin directly that included vulgar and sexually degrading language, questioned her morality and threatened to disclose information about her at a press conference. He repeated attacks against actresses attending El Gouna Film Festival during a press conference.
