Egypt Invested Over USD 6 Billion in Telecoms Since 2019

More than USD 6 billion has been invested in the development of Egypt’s fixed and mobile internet infrastructure since 2019, according to figures presented during a review of telecommunications projects and investment plans.

The update also highlighted the allocation of 410 MHz of new frequency bands to Egypt’s four telecom operators in February 2026 through agreements valued at USD 3.5 billion.

The investments form part of broader efforts to expand digital infrastructure, including the continued rollout of fibre-optic networks, the replacement of copper cables, improvements to mobile coverage and the introduction of 5G services.

Plans are also in place to install approximately 3,000 new telecom towers during 2026, with more than 9,000 additional towers targeted over the next three years.

According to data from the National Telecom Regulatory Authority, 7.9 million new mobile internet users were added during 2025, while mobile internet consumption increased by 12% compared to the previous year.

The review also highlighted growth in local electronics manufacturing under the 'Egypt Makes Electronics' initiative. According to the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, 15 mobile phone brands are currently manufacturing devices in Egypt, with annual production expected to exceed 15 million units within the next year.

Outsourcing exports are projected to increase from approximately USD 5.2 billion in 2025 to USD 6 billion in 2026, while digital exports reached USD 7.4 billion in 2025. A national strategy regulating the establishment of data centres is also under preparation.

The initiative aims to create an investment map for the sector and introduce incentives designed to attract large-scale projects supporting cloud computing and artificial intelligence services. According to official figures, the telecommunications and information technology sector now contributes more than 6% of Egypt’s GDP.
