Air Cairo Cancels Flights to Abha After Houthi Strikes on Saudi

Air Cairo, the Egyptian low-cost airline, has cancelled flights to and from Abha, Saudi Arabia, following the closure of Abha International Airport amid escalating tensions between Yemen's Houthi movement and Saudi Arabia. The airline advised passengers to monitor updates and contact its call centre in Egypt or their travel agents to arrange rebooking or refunds.

Customers outside Egypt were asked to contact Air Cairo offices and authorised agents in their respective countries for the latest travel procedures. The airline said it is monitoring developments in coordination with the relevant authorities and will provide further updates as the situation evolves.

The airport closure follows an attack claimed by the Houthi movement, which said it targeted Abha International Airport using missiles and drones in response to earlier Saudi airstrikes on Sanaa International Airport in Yemen.

Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said the operation was retaliation for the strikes and warned airlines against operating flights through Saudi airspace until what the group described as the blockade on Sanaa airport is lifted.

The Saudi-led coalition said the Houthis launched missiles towards the Kingdom following the strikes on Sanaa, with coalition spokesperson Turki Al-Maliki stating that air defence systems intercepted a ballistic missile over the country's southern region.
