Kotn Plants Coral Benches Across Cairo for Design Week
A series of sculptural benches by Kotn now dot neighbourhoods across Cairo, introducing soft forms, coral tones, and quiet pauses to the city’s streetscape during Cairo Design Week.
If you’ve been wandering around Zamalek, Heliopolis, or Downtown this week and suddenly found yourself sitting on something that looks suspiciously more sculptural than your average street bench… yes, that was intentional.
Kotn, the Canada-Egypt brand that began life chasing the “perfect T-shirt” and now holds one of the highest B-Corp scores in North America, has planted a series of benches across the city for Cairo Design Week.
Designed by the Copenhagen-based @spaceon.studio, their smooth, rounded silhouettes and soft coral finish, the benches are stamped with Kotn’s name in Arabic and English — a quiet intervention in the streetscape that’s difficult to ignore.
As Kotn co-founder Rami Helali puts it, “We’ve always focused on giving back to the communities in Egypt that shaped us. Cairo Design Week and Spacon brought that spirit into the heart of the city with living art installations meant to be lived with, leaned on, and shared. We’re extremely lucky to collaborate with partners who understand that design can strengthen the people that inspire it.”
