Sharjah Women Protection Centre Expands Empowerment Programmes

The Sharjah Women Protection Centre, operating under the Social Services Department, has expanded its programmes supporting women affected by domestic violence, strengthening services that combine shelter, rehabilitation and integrated psychological, social and legal care.
In 2025, the centre reported the successful reintegration of four women who had experienced abuse or harmful social behaviours back into their families and wider society. The work forms part of a broader approach focused on restoring dignity, safety and independence for beneficiaries, while addressing the long-term social and emotional impact of violence.
Central to this effort is the Intilaqah programme, which supported 15 women through tailored psychological care alongside vocational, economic and legal empowerment. The programme focuses on building life skills through education and training, supporting access to employment and financial independence, raising awareness of legal rights, and strengthening social participation through coordination with relevant authorities.
Two additional initiatives launched in 2025 were designed to deepen this support. Al Jisr concentrates on family reintegration through specialised counselling sessions that address family dynamics and conflict, while Irtiqaa provides individual and group psychological support with an emphasis on mental wellbeing and emotional resilience.
Beyond direct services, the centre also expanded its public outreach through the Ahwal awareness campaign. The campaign featured a series of short visual episodes addressing social attitudes toward women affected by violence and broader family-related challenges, including marital relationships, financial trust between spouses, and the role of parents in family stability. The episodes, produced in collaboration with the Government Communication Office at the Social Services Department, recorded strong engagement across official platforms.
