New Digital System Planned for Labour Complaints in Egypt
The ministry is coordinating with the Ministry of Planning on minimum wage oversight, with stricter fines and payroll checks to verify compliance.
The Ministry of Labour is studying the launch of a specialised electronic platform and a dedicated hotline to receive complaints from workers, as part of a broader package of measures to enhance enforcement of the country’s new labour law and minimum wage requirements.
The initiative aims to make it easier for workers to report violations confidentially and quickly, with authorities reviewing proposals to ensure anonymity and immediate follow-up. The move comes alongside plans for intensified inspection efforts, including daily monitoring systems to track compliance with the new law across all sectors.
Under the updated labour framework, inspection teams will conduct systematic visits across workplaces with the minister personally overseeing compliance progress in real time, officials said. Stricter penalties are also being readied to deter violations related to minimum wage and other fundamental worker rights.
The ministry’s approach to inspections will include verification of salary payments through bank records to ensure alignment with minimum wage standards and eliminate common forms of non-compliance. Authorities also plan to close legal loopholes that previously allowed contracting arrangements to bypass wage protections.
