More Than 11,000 Saudi Families Adopted Orphans
Al Wedad is the only organisation authorised by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development to oversee foster care for children of unknown parentage.
More than 11,000 Saudi families have adopted orphaned children in Riyadh, according to the Al-Wedad Charity Association, which released the figure on World Adoption Day alongside a campaign highlighting the experiences of foster parents and their children.
Al-Wedad is the only organisation authorised by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development to oversee the national foster care programme for children of unknown parentage.
Chief Executive Dhaif Allah Al-Nami said the campaign is part of the association’s ongoing efforts to raise awareness and promote social acceptance of adoption, emphasising the mutual feelings of love and belonging between child and family.
In addition to awareness initiatives, Al-Wedad provides social, psychological, and educational counselling to foster families, offers temporary accommodation for orphaned children, and assists families with breastfeeding support.
