Ministry of Energy Plans Saudi Entry Into Battery Sector by 2026

During the 9th Future Investment Initiative in Riyadh, Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman announced that Saudi Arabia will enter the global battery market in 2026 — a move that signals the Kingdom’s growing focus on advanced energy-storage technologies.

The decision reflects Saudi Arabia’s ongoing shift toward renewable and sustainable energy, complementing broader efforts to diversify beyond oil and gas. Battery systems will play a central role in supporting renewable integration, electric mobility and industrial efficiency across the country.

The Kingdom has already automated 40 percent of its electricity distribution network and is expanding its storage capacity from 26 to 48 gigawatt-hours by 2030. These steps align with Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to strengthen grid reliability, cut energy losses, and accelerate the transition toward a cleaner, more resilient energy ecosystem.
