Kids With Diabetes to Receive Free Sugar Monitors & Strips
Egypt’s universal health insurance system is expanding support for children with type 1 diabetes, while also upgrading coverage for chronic conditions and investing in digital transformation tools.

Egypt’s universal health insurance system has introduced a series of new measures, including the distribution of free blood sugar monitoring devices and test strips for children and teenagers under 18 diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.
The decision includes coverage for device replacement in cases of technical malfunction, provided the damage was not due to misuse. Replacements must be collected from the same pharmacy where the original device was issued.
The system has also updated its guidelines for distributing adult incontinence products to patients with severe spinal injuries, stroke complications, brain tumours, and advanced neurological diseases. These cases will now require assessment by specialist consultants to determine eligibility. The updated rules also extend coverage to include colostomy and urostomy bags.
In parallel, the board approved capital participation in E-Health, the government-backed digital health company, to strengthen the technological infrastructure supporting Egypt’s national insurance system.
This move is part of broader efforts to digitise healthcare services and streamline administrative operations.
