Free Winter Home-Care Drive Launched for Chronic Patients in Egypt
The nationwide campaign delivers home care and medicines to chronic and elderly patients under Egypt’s health insurance system.
The Healthcare Authority has launched a free winter home-care campaign targeting people with chronic illnesses, elderly patients, and persons with disabilities in governorates covered by the Universal Health Insurance System. The campaign aims to reach more than 7,000 beneficiaries, with medical teams already having served over 5,000 people through home visits and medicine delivery services.
Home delivery of prescribed medicines began in Suez in December 2025 as a pilot phase and is set to expand to other participating governorates. Healthcare teams are carrying out regular home visits to monitor patients’ conditions, ensure adherence to treatment plans, and provide medical guidance, particularly as winter weather places added pressure on public health facilities.
The campaign currently covers first-phase governorates under the Universal Health Insurance System, including Port Said, Luxor, Ismailia, South Sinai, Suez, and Aswan. The Healthcare Authority said it has achieved around 71% of its December target so far. Seasonal influenza vaccines are also being offered at family medicine centres, primary healthcare units, and affiliated hospitals to reduce winter-related health complications, especially among high-risk groups. The Universal Health Insurance System currently serves more than 6.2 million people.
It was launched on a trial basis in Port Said in 2018 and expanded across the first-phase governorates, with that phase completed in July 2025. While nationwide rollout was initially scheduled for completion by 2032, authorities have accelerated the timeline, with full implementation now planned between 2027 and 2030.
