Egypt Releases Commemorative Coins for Grand Egyptian Museum Opening
A new series of commemorative coins captures the spirit and symbolism of the Grand Egyptian Museum.
To mark the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum, Egypt’s Ministry of Finance has released a collection of commemorative coins, small intricately designed tributes to a moment decades in the making.
Produced by the Public Treasury and Mint Authority, the coins were created by Egyptian designers, engineers, and metalworkers whose craftsmanship reflects both technical precision and cultural reverence.
The collection spans six denominations — £1, £5, £10, £25, £50, and £100 — each engraved with imagery drawn from the museum’s most defining features: the Hanging Obelisk, the main façade and entrance, King Khufu’s solar boats, the statue of Ramses II, and the golden mask of Tutankhamun.
