Confidential Drug Crime Hotline With Rewards Launched in UAE
Prevention measures include the introduction of a new 'Security and Safety' curriculum in primary and secondary schools
The National Anti-Narcotics Authority has launched a confidential hotline in the UAE for reporting drug-related crimes, offering financial rewards for information that leads to the arrest of traffickers and dealers or prevents smuggling attempts. The initiative was announced during the 'National Anti-Narcotics Efforts' session at the UAE Government Annual Meetings 2025 in Abu Dhabi. The authority outlined a national strategy focused on prevention, enforcement, and rehabilitation. It is implementing awareness and educational programmes targeting all segments of society, with a particular emphasis on young people. The authority was established to coordinate national efforts across government entities and community organizations, ensuring a unified approach to combating drugs. As part of digital monitoring and law enforcement, 2,297 websites and social media accounts promoting narcotics and mind-altering substances have been identified and blocked. The UAE has also strengthened international cooperation with 24 countries, contributing to the seizure of significant quantities of narcotics outside its borders. Prevention measures include the introduction of a new 'Security and Safety' curriculum in primary and secondary schools, aimed at educating students about avoiding harmful behaviors, with secondary-level lessons addressing the dangers of drug use. In addition, a 'National Activities Programme' will expand access to sports, cultural activities, and recreational clubs in neighbourhoods and public parks, supporting youth engagement and community wellbeing.
