Cairo Airport Just Won An Award For AI Travel Assistant ‘Ask Mariam’

Cairo International Airport has received the 2026 Digital Innovation and Community Engagement Award from Airports Council International Africa for its ‘Ask Mariam’ smart assistant.

The award was presented during the 75th Airports Council International Africa Conference and Exhibition in Luanda, according to the Egyptian Holding Company for Airports and Air Navigation.

Launched in October 2025, ‘Ask Mariam’ is an AI-powered system that provides real-time information to passengers on flights, airport services and facilities.

The service operates through interactive smart devices installed across the airport. Users can access information on departure and arrival procedures, transport options including taxis and limousine services, directions within the airport and nearby attractions, as well as updated flight schedules.

The system supports both Arabic and English. The platform forms part of a wider digital transformation programme across Egypt’s aviation sector, focused on introducing smart, paperless services and improving passenger experience.

According to the holding company, more than 33,700 passengers used the service within its first four months. Monthly usage increased from 2,900 users in November 2025 to 15,800 in February 2026, reflecting an average growth rate of 67%. Data also showed that 94.2% of users were international passengers.
