Al Mansaf Mosque Restored in Al Zulfi Under Historical Mosques Project
The redevelopment preserves the mosque’s Najdi architectural style while introducing structural upgrades and modern facilities.
Restoration works have been completed at Al Mansaf Mosque in Al Zulfi, northwest of Riyadh, as part of the Prince Mohammed bin Salman Project for the Development of Historical Mosques.
The redevelopment expanded the mosque’s total area from 200 to 337 square metres, increasing its capacity to 150 worshippers. The project forms part of a national programme focused on safeguarding historic mosques and returning them to active community use.
Al Mansaf Mosque reflects the traditional Najdi architectural style, with construction historically based on local materials including mud, tamarisk wood and palm fronds. The site previously served as a transit point for pilgrims and travellers and functioned as a religious and educational centre for the surrounding community.
The restoration aimed to preserve these architectural and historical characteristics while addressing structural requirements associated with age and continued use. Modern updates introduced during the redevelopment include a dedicated women’s prayer area and upgraded service facilities.
