Ahmed Shawky Re-Elected President of FIPRESCI
The International Federation of Film Critics will also relocate its headquarters to Cairo.

Egyptian critic Ahmed Shawky has been re-elected President of the International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI). The new Board was announced during the Federation’s General Assembly, held on September 17th and 18th, 2025, at the 8th Budapest Classics Film Marathon.
Shawky, a prominent figure in Arab and international film criticism, is also currently Head of CineGouna Funding Platform at El Gouna Film Festival, where he oversees the festival’s industry and funding arm.
He will be joined on the new FIPRESCI Board by Vice Presidents Paola Casella (Italy), Elena Rubashevskaya (Ukraine), and Marina Kostova (North Macedonia). Phillip Maarek (France) was appointed Head of Legal Affairs, and Beat Glur (Switzerland) was appointed Treasurer.
As part of this new chapter, FIPRESCI will also relocate its headquarters to Cairo. The elections followed structural changes introduced earlier this year, which replaced the role of General Secretary with a Board composed of a President and three Vice Presidents, each serving a four-year term.
