Adham Kandil Wins Arab Chess Gold to Become Egypt’s 7th Grandmaster
Organised by the Kuwait Chess Federation with the Arab Chess Federation and hosted by the Kuwaiti Mind Sports Club, the event drew 100 players from 18 Arab countries.
Adham Kandil won the Arab Chess Championship gold medal in Kuwait, becoming Egypt’s seventh chess grandmaster in the process. The seniors tournament was organised by the Kuwait Chess Federation in cooperation with the Arab Chess Federation and hosted by the Kuwaiti Mind Sports Club.
Major General Mokhtar Amara, president of the Egyptian Chess Federation and head of the national delegation, announced an immediate financial reward for Kandil. The Egyptian delegation was led by Major General Amara, with federation vice president George Samir participating at his own expense.
The Egyptian men’s lineup also included International Master Hamed Wafa and International Master David George, with Wafa and George participating on a self-funded basis. The women’s team featured Woman Grandmaster Shahenda Wafa, Woman International Master Jana Zaki, and Dima Alaa, with Alaa also competing at her own expense. In total, the championship hosted 100 players from 18 Arab nations.
