Everything You Need to Know About This Year’s Sharjah Light Festival
11 locations will be lit up, each with its own style and telling its own story of Emirati heritage.
The Sharjah Light Festival will soon illuminate the emirate from February 7th to the 18th, with dazzling light displays projected onto 11 of the city’s most iconic landmarks.
The festival will invite bright-eyed guests to go on a tour through these luminous sites, which will spotlight the history and development of each destination as they enjoy the sound-accompanied light shows. The sites include Al Noor Mosque (‘Enchanted Dimensions’), Sharjah Mosque (‘A Sublime Canvas’), Al Hamriyah New General Souk (‘The past meets the future’), Al Dhaid Fort (‘Echoes of Al Dhaid’), Dibba Al Hisn City (‘A treasure trove of history’) and Al Rafisah Dam (‘The Jewel of Rafisah Dam’).
There will also be lights on display at the Beeah Headquarters, titled ‘Reflecting on the Circle of Life’. However, whilst other displays need external lighting to create the spectacle, this extraordinary building, designed by Zaha Hadid Architects, has lights of its own built into the very surfaces of its space-age construction.
There will also be free-standing light displays away from Sharjah’s architectural landmarks, capitalising instead on the emirate’s proximity to water. These displays can be found at the Khalid Lagoon (‘Radiant Illuminations’), Al Majaz Waterfront (‘Waves of Reflection’) and Kalba Waterfront (‘Elemental Reflections’).
Finally, after building up an appetite after all that light sightseeing, guests can gather at the Light Village just outside Sharjah’s University City Hall, where over 50 food trucks will dole out local and international cuisine.
