Diwan & Gallimard Partner to Bring French Literary Classics to Egypt
The collection will feature works by major French writers including Balzac, Camus, Colette, and Annie Ernaux, offering readers a gateway into the richness and diversity of French literary heritage.

In a new cultural collaboration between Egypt and France, Diwan Publishing has partnered with France's famed Gallimard Publishing House, with support from the French Embassy in Cairo, to launch a project that will make some of France’s greatest literary works available to Egyptian readers in accessible local editions.
The initiative aims to revive the presence of French literature in Egypt by publishing 30 titles from Gallimard’s celebrated Folio collection locally. The series will be released at prices suited to the Egyptian market, expanding access to both classic and modern French works for francophone readers across the country.

Founded in 1911, Gallimard has long stood at the centre of French publishing, while its Folio series, launched in 1972, made literary masterpieces available to a wider audience. Established in 2020, Diwan Publishing is the publishing arm of Diwan Bookstores, one of Egypt’s leading independent booksellers and the official publisher of Naguib Mahfouz’s works.
