Middle East's First Integrated Biopharmaceutical Plant Opens in Egypt

A new biopharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Tenth of Ramadan City has become the first in Egypt and the Middle East to produce biologic medicines and biosimilars through a fully integrated manufacturing process.

The plant belongs to the Arab Company for Drug Industries and Medical Appliances (EIPICO) Group and was inaugurated during the minister's inspection tour of national healthcare projects. The event was also attended by Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem, General Authority for Healthcare Chairman Ahmed El Sobky, and EIPICO Chairperson Alfat Ghorab.

According to EIPICO Chairman and Managing Director Ahmed Kilani, the facility was built on an area of 10,500 square metres with investments exceeding USD 100 million. The plant applies the Modular Construction Concept in partnership with Sweden's Pharmadule, with production units manufactured, assembled and tested abroad before being transported and installed in Egypt to meet international quality standards.

During the visit, the minister toured the facility's integrated production lines, including bioreactors, preparation areas, and automated filling and packaging lines. Together, the systems form a continuous manufacturing process linking cell development, formulation and final packaging within a single facility.
