Azza Fahmy to Establish a Cultural Centre for Handicrafts in Old Cairo
Situated in Darb Al-Labbana, the integrated cultural and training centre will include lecture halls, artisan workshops, artist-in-residence studios, and outlets for displaying heritage products.
The Azza Fahmy Foundation for the Development of Handicrafts has signed an MoU with the Urban Development Fund to establish a centre for traditional crafts in Old Cairo’s Darb Al-Labbana neighbourhood.
The planned cultural and training centre will span 2,730 square metres within a building owned by the Urban Development Fund.
It will include exhibition and lecture halls, artisan workspaces, artist-in-residence studios and retail outlets for showcasing heritage crafts. The Azza Fahmy School for Creativity and Design is also expected to form part of the complex.
Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly described the MoU as a step toward developing an open-air handicrafts district in Old Cairo, and supporting the continuity of traditional crafts.
The agreement was finalised ahead of the 2025 Fustat Winter Festival, which will take place at Fustat Hills Park.
