2024's Top Egyptian Films in Saudi Arabia

Turki Al-Sheikh, Chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority, has announced the top 10 highest-grossing films at Saudi cinemas in 2024. Egyptian cinema secured a strong presence with four entries on the list.

The top performing Egyptian film on the list is ‘Welad Rizk. Grossing approximately SAR 39.95 million, this action-packed sequel follows four brothers who, after years apart, are drawn back into a life of crime when a figure from their past resurfaces. Their attempt at a legitimate business is shattered, leading them into their most perilous operation yet - right in the heart of Riyadh. The film stars Ahmed Ezz, Amr Youssef and Asser Yassin, and is directed by Tarek El Eryan and written by Salah El Gehiny.

Earning SAR 29.89 million, ‘Gawaza Toxic’ is a comedy that centres on Karim and Farida, a couple whose wedding plans are disrupted when their conservative and liberal families clash. The ensuing chaos is filled with humorous pranks and cultural misunderstandings. It features Mohamed Anwar, Laila Eloui, and Bayoumi Fouad, and is produced by Zeid Al Kurdi.

With a box office take of SAR 22.7 million, ‘Fasel Min El Lahazat El Laziza’ is a romantic comedy that features Saleh, who discovers a portal to a parallel universe where his life is seemingly perfect. As he navigates between realities, he contemplates where he truly belongs. The film stars Hesham Maged, Hana El Zahed and Mohamed Tharwat, and is directed by Ahmed El Gendy.

Rounding out the list with SAR 20.49 million is ‘X Meraty’. This social comedy follows psychiatrist Youssef, whose life is upended when he learns that his wife's ex-husband, a recently released criminal, is also the father of her son. The revelation leads to a series of comedic and dramatic events. It stars Hesham Maged, Mohamed Mamdouh, and Amina Khalil, is directed by Moataz El Tony, and written by Ahmed Abdelwahab and Kareem Sami.
