60 Million Iftar & Sohour Meals Distributed Across Egypt in Ramadan
Ramadan feeding initiatives coordinated through the Ministry of Social Solidarity distributed around 60 million meals.
Around 60 million iftar and sohour meals were distributed across Egypt during the month of Ramadan through feeding initiatives coordinated by the Ministry of Social Solidarity and its partners.
According to the ministry’s feeding platform database, the total number of meals exceeded the initial target for the month, with distribution taking place through multiple points across governorates.
Several initiatives contributed to the programme. The ‘Abwab El Khair’ campaign, implemented with the Tahya Misr Fund, operated alongside ‘Al Mahrousa’ and ‘Ahl El Khair’ initiatives in cooperation with civil society organisations nationwide.
Additional efforts included the Egyptian Red Crescent’s Ramadan Humanitarian Kitchen, which prepared hot meals for Palestinians in Gaza, while the ‘Hilal El Khair’ initiative focused on families most in need as well as passers-by.
In total, 286 partner associations and foundations participated in the programme. Meals were distributed through 1,450 Ahl El Khair points as well as fixed and mobile Al Mahrousa outlets across the country.
The wider Ramadan feeding campaign also coincided with a Guinness World Record set during a community iftar organised at Ain Shams University for the largest number of iftar meals served within one hour.
The ministry also called on associations, foundations and initiatives that conducted feeding activities during Ramadan but have not yet submitted their data to register through the Ahl El Khair platform.
