Ashraf Abdel Baky’s Nostalgia Tent Turns Sohour Into Live Cinema

Some people go out for sohour and get a good meal, maybe a little oud in the background. Egyptian actor Ashraf Abdel Baky, however, decided your sohour experience should come with a full cast.

This Ramadan, the actor is hosting Nostalgia, a sohour tent at his New Cairo restaurant, Tante. The space draws on the mood of old Cairo, with design details inspired by Al-Muizz Street, warm lighting and ornate touches that make the entire tent feel like a stage waiting for its cue.

And then it gets one.

Throughout the night, familiar moments from classic Egyptian films, series and plays unfold around the room — a recognisable line here, an iconic song there. Performed by 42 students and graduates from the Higher Institute of Theatrical Arts and the Music Institute, the tent gradually turns into a live, interactive show where the audience becomes part of the atmosphere.

Nostalgia is open throughout Ramadan at Tante, with tickets available on Tickets Marche.
