SceneNoise & WSLA Introduce the Art of Intentional Listening to Cairo
On December 5th, Nile-side venue Ceryle’s intimate live entertainment and dining space embraces audiophiles for a day of high fidelity and high-end dining.
In the clamour of Cairo’s frenzied clubbing and nightlife scene, the artistry of music can often be relegated to providing a mere background track. It begs the question: what if, instead of being passive to the music we’re exposed to, we actually stopped to listen - to truly experience, savour and immerse ourselves in the sound? On December 5th, SceneNoise and WSLA are teaming up to present a clear counterpoint to the usual, hosting a unique hi-fi listening event designed to show that there is a world where one can fully appreciate electronic music.
Taking place at Nile-side venue, Cercle, in Cairo’s leafy suburb of Maadi, the event is built upon a reimagining of the art of intentional listening, drawing inspiration from global audiophilic traditions that emphasise dedicated, focused musical appreciation, not least Japan’s Jazz Kissa culture - dedicated coffee shops for high-fidelity appreciation of jazz music.
This is a moment in time and space that offers a sanctuary where sound is the focal point.
Guiding attendees through sweeping, immersive sets are two DJs from one of Europe’s most active capitals, Ljubljana, Slovenia, playing back-to-back. Masha Gasar was born in the fire of Slovenia’s underground rave culture, shaping her unique blend of uplifting house with electro and UKG influences. Also hailing from Ljubljana, Trulson sits on the cusp between the old guard and new guard of the Slovenian DJing scene. While seen as part of the new generation of producers that are pushing the local sound, a decade in the game has led to him honing a sound that is uniquely his own, one that is often groovy, always hypnotic, and sometimes indefinable.
Cairo’s own vibrant scene is represented by two up-and-comers. Bold in his genre-bending selections, Cairene vinyl enthusiast, Mamadoo, is a crafty curator of music whose sets always carry a unique playfulness. Joining him is crate-digging prodigy, Youssef Yasser - one of the city’s youngest and most talented DJs, who has turned heads with appearances on several international platforms, including NTS and France’s Rinse. A fixture on Cairo’s nightlife scene, where he can be found swinging through the sounds of the nineties and early naughties, expect everything from electro to acid house to IDM.
Listeners will be able to indulge in Ceryle’s Cold & Hot Catches sharing menus, which offer a variety of bites - but beware. Spaces are deliberately limited to ensure an optimum listening experience for all. Apply to attend now via ceryle-eg.com.
