Registration Required for Media Coverage of Hany Shaker Funeral
The move introduces structured guidelines for photographing public figure funerals while procedures continue to return Hany Shaker’s body to Cairo.
A registration system has been introduced for journalists and photographers covering the funeral and condolences of Hany Shaker, as part of new measures to regulate media presence at public figure funerals.
The initiative was launched by the Egyptian Journalists Syndicate’s Photographers Division and marks the first implementation of a cooperation protocol with Sokna, a company specialising in organising funeral ceremonies.
The framework has also been developed in coordination with the Syndicate of Acting Professions.
The system requires accredited journalists to register in advance to gain access, with the aim of organising coverage, protecting working conditions, and reducing disorder during highly attended events.
The protocol introduces designated areas for photography, specific attire requirements, and the creation of a database of approved media personnel assigned to cover the funeral.
Officials said the measures are designed to maintain professional and ethical standards while respecting privacy during funeral proceedings. The framework also seeks to limit unauthorised coverage, particularly by individuals not affiliated with recognised media institutions.
Violations of the rules may lead to disciplinary action by the syndicate or legal measures initiated by the family. Separately, procedures are underway to transfer Hany Shaker’s body from Foch Hospital in Paris to Cairo.
The process is being handled by the Egyptian Embassy in Paris in coordination with the Consulate General, following his death after a sudden deterioration in health.
