Reem Amer's 'Al Baraneya' Selected for Venice Int'l Film Festival
The debut film by director Ashgan El-Hamus will celebrate its world premiere during the festival.
'Al Baraneya', the debut feature film of Dutch-Egyptian director Ashgan El-Hamus, has officially been selected for Giornate degli Autori (a parallel programme formerly known as 'Venice Days') at the 83rd edition of the Venice International Film Festival. Starring Egyptian actress Reem Amer, the film will celebrate its world premiere during the festival, which takes place from September 2nd to 12th, 2026.
Amer plays Amal, a pregnant woman whose peaceful life with her family in the village of Al Baraneya begins to unravel after they receive an offer to sell their land. As the family struggles between holding onto their roots and the temptation of moving to the city, Amal finds herself caught in an internal conflict that reshapes her outlook on the future and forces her to make life-changing decisions.
