RTA Plans to Link 25 Dubai Communities With Walking & Cycling Network
The five-year plan will connect neighbourhoods and upgrade access to 63 Metro and bus stations by 2030.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has approved a five-year plan to expand Dubai's soft mobility network, connecting 25 residential communities and upgrading the areas surrounding 63 public transport stations by 2030.
The programme aims to make it easier for residents to complete first- and last-mile journeys on foot, by bicycle or by e-scooter, reducing reliance on private cars when travelling to and from Metro and bus stations.
The expansion builds on projects already underway in Dubai Marina, Naif, Al Rigga, Al Murar and Al Muraqqabat, where new pedestrian and cycling infrastructure is being introduced.
Upgrades around Metro and bus stations will include wider footpaths, dedicated cycling tracks, shaded walkways, safer pedestrian crossings, bicycle parking and designated pick-up and drop-off areas to improve access to public transport.
The RTA said the initiative responds to growing demand for alternative modes of transport. In 2025, Dubai recorded 342 million pedestrian journeys, 57.3 million cycling trips and 39.6 million e-scooter trips.
