Kuwait Approves Route for Saudi Railway Project
The approved rail corridor will extend 85 kilometres from Kuwait’s border with Saudi Arabia to Al-Shadadiya.
Kuwait’s Municipal Council has approved the Ministry of Public Works’ request to allocate the right-of-way for the Kuwait–Saudi Arabia railway project, establishing a route stretching 85 kilometres from Kuwait’s southwestern border with Saudi Arabia to Al-Shadadiya.
The decision was passed during a Municipal Council session held on Monday and chaired by Abdullah Al-Muhairi.
The railway approval forms part of a wider set of infrastructure and public service measures reviewed during the session.
The council also approved a request from the Ministry of Interior to amend a previous decision concerning driving school sites formerly operated by the Kuwait Driving School Company.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy received approval for two separate route allocations linked to electricity infrastructure projects.
One route will support overhead power lines connecting the Z3 main electricity substation in the Sabah Al-Ahmad residential area to the Mohammed Al-Ahmad Naval Base in Al-Zour.
The second allocation covers cables extending north from a main electricity substation in the Al-Wafra residential area toward the Abu Kharjin and Al-Sabahiya areas.
The council additionally approved three requests submitted by the Ministry of Defense.
Other measures passed during the session included approval for the Green Urban Development Initiatives Committee to construct a memorial at the intersection of Fahaheel Road and the First Ring Road between the Dasma and Bneid Al-Gar areas.
