Italian Tourism to Egypt Rises 15% in Early 2026

Italian tourist arrivals to Egypt increased by 15% between January and the first week of June 2026 compared with the same period last year, as tourism cooperation between the two countries continues to expand.

Italy remains one of Egypt's most important European source markets, with growing demand reported for destinations including the Red Sea, Luxor and Aswan, alongside a rise in independent travel by Italian visitors.

During meetings with the Italian Association of Tour Operators, leading tour operators and airline executives in Rome and Milan, discussions focused on increasing tourist flows through joint promotional campaigns, influencer partnerships and familiarisation trips for travel companies and media representatives.

Plans also include promoting multi-stop itineraries combining destinations such as Sphinx International Airport, the Giza Pyramids, the Grand Egyptian Museum, Alexandria and the North Coast.

Infrastructure projects supporting the sector were also highlighted, including the development of Alamein International Airport, a new terminal at Cairo International Airport and road upgrades, including the Marsa Alam–Luxor route. The near-complete Akhenaten Museum in Minya is also expected to become a future stop on Nile cruise itineraries.

According to the Italian Association of Tour Operators, demand is also increasing for domestic flights between Cairo and Marsa Alam, while Marsa Alam and Alamein have become two of the most popular destinations for Italian travellers visiting Egypt.
