King Abdulaziz University Launches GCC's First Railway Degrees

The Gulf’s first specialised bachelor’s degree programmes in railway transport have been launched at King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah, with enrolment beginning in the 2026–2027 academic year.

Developed in partnership with the Transport General Authority, the programmes are designed to prepare Saudi graduates for expanding rail, transport and logistics projects across the Kingdom.

Two accredited tracks will be offered. The first is a degree in railway engineering and planning, jointly supervised by the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Architecture and Planning. The second is a Bachelor of Science in Logistics Management and Railway Transport Services, offered through the Faculty of Economics and Administration alongside the Faculty of Tourism.

The curricula are intended to reflect labour-market requirements across railway engineering, infrastructure planning, transport operations, logistics and services management. Their launch comes as the Kingdom expands a rail network that already includes the Riyadh Metro, Haramain High-Speed Railway and the line connecting Riyadh with the Eastern Province.

Future projects highlighted by transport officials include the GCC railway network, proposed rail connections with Qatar and Jordan, and the Jeddah Metro, increasing demand for specialised expertise across both infrastructure and operations.
