Animatex is Now Accepting Animation Film Submissions Until October
Egyptian animation festival Animatex has opened submissions for its 2027 edition, with eight competition categories alongside workshops, talks and industry sessions.
Animatex is gearing up for its seventh edition in February 2027, and submissions are officially open. The Egyptian animation festival is inviting filmmakers from Egypt and around the world to enter work across its competition programme.
Entries are open until October 15th, 2026, with eight categories spanning Best International Film, Best Egyptian Film, Best Music Film and more. Full eligibility details are available on the festival’s website, while films can be submitted through FilmFreeway.
Last year’s winners included ‘Shadows’, a France-Jordan production by Rand Beiruty, which took the Arab Films award, while ‘Gauze’ by Noran Fikri Alezabi, Nicholas Arujah, Xinyue Ma, Yulin Yue and Xiaonan Zho from France won in the International Films category.
Animatex also goes well beyond the competition itself, with workshops and talks that bring together animators, directors and industry figures from across the region and beyond. Its sixth edition welcomed names including Mike Hollingsworth, supervising director of ‘BoJack Horseman’; Egyptian animator Sara Matta, whose credits include ‘Arcane’; and three-time Annie Award-winning Egyptian director Meena Ibrahim, who has worked on productions including ‘Hotel Transylvania’ and ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’. The programme also featured Tarek Al Arabi Tourgane and Tala Tourgane in a session on children’s song production.
