Egyptians Abroad Can Now Get Second Criminal Record Certificate Online
The new service is available through the Digital Egypt Portal as part of expanded digital consular services.
Egyptians living abroad can now apply online for a second automated criminal record certificate through the Digital Egypt Portal, following the launch of a new digital consular service by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in coordination with the Ministry of Interior.
The service is available to applicants who have previously been issued a criminal record certificate. Requests can be submitted using a valid passport or national ID card through the Digital Egypt Portal.
Once issued, the certificate can be collected in Egypt by a first-degree relative or by an authorised representative holding an official power of attorney. Pick-up is available from the General Department for Criminal Evidence Investigation in Abbasiya Square, Cairo.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to expand electronic consular services and make government transactions more accessible for Egyptians living overseas.
Previously, Egyptians abroad were required to apply for criminal status certificates through diplomatic missions, with documents sent to the General Department for Criminal Evidence Investigation via diplomatic pouch. The ministry's consular guidance states that certificates remain valid for three months, while the traditional process could take around a month or longer.
The Digital Egypt Portal, developed by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, serves as the government's platform for delivering public services online through digital identity and electronic payment systems.
