Egypt Reaches 11 Million Licensed Vehicles in 2025
Cairo holds 25.7% with 2.84 million vehicles, followed by Giza at 1.6 million and Alexandria at 780,500.
The total number of licensed vehicles in Egypt reached 11.05 million by December 31st, 2025, marking a 6.1% increase from 10.41 million a year earlier, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics.
Cairo accounted for the largest share of vehicles at 2.84 million, representing 25.7% of the national total. Giza followed with 1.6 million vehicles (14.4%), while Alexandria recorded 780,500 vehicles (7.1%).
South Sinai had the lowest number at 46,700 vehicles, equivalent to 0.4%. Passenger cars made up the majority of the fleet, totalling 6.0 million vehicles, or 54.1% of all licensed vehicles. Within this category, private cars accounted for 5.7 million vehicles (94.8%), while taxis totalled 295,200 (4.9%).
A limited number of vehicles were registered on a temporary basis. Buses represented 182,100 vehicles, or 1.6% of the total fleet. Private buses accounted for 72,900 vehicles (40.0%), while public buses made up 13,200 (7.3%).
Freight vehicles also formed a notable segment, with trucks and trailers combined reaching 1.4 million vehicles, representing 12.2% of the total. Trucks accounted for 1.2 million vehicles (92.0%), compared to 107,700 trailers (8.0%).
