Dubai’s First Etihad Rail Station to Be Named Al Yalayis Station
The station will open on September 30th as part of Etihad Rail's new passenger service linking four emirates.
Dubai Al Yalayis has been confirmed as the name of Dubai's first Etihad Rail passenger station, ahead of the launch of the national railway's passenger service on September 30th.
Located in the Jumeirah Golf Estates area, the station will connect Dubai by rail with Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Fujairah. A dedicated bridge will also link the station directly to the existing Jumeirah Golf Estates Metro Station on the Red Line, allowing passengers to transfer between the two networks.
The name Al Yalayis refers to a large area of Dubai surrounding Jumeirah Golf Estates. Historically, the name describes open terrain characterised by sand dunes near coastal and desert landscapes, deriving from the Arabic root Al-Jalais, which refers to raised or firm ground.
According to current plans, journeys between Dubai and Abu Dhabi and between Dubai and Fujairah will each take around 50 minutes on the new passenger service. A separate high-speed rail project between Dubai and Abu Dhabi remains under development and is expected to reduce travel time between the two emirates to 30 minutes once operational.
The Roads and Transport Authority's rail network map extending to 2032 also indicates future connections between Jumeirah Golf Estates and the planned Gold Line, alongside a second Etihad Rail passenger station at Meydan. However, Etihad Rail has not formally confirmed any future station expansion plans, with additional locations still under consideration.
