Chinese Investment in Egypt Surpasses USD 10 Billion
The figure was announced during a ministerial review of Egypt-China economic cooperation.
Chinese investment in Egypt has surpassed USD 10 billion, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly announced while chairing the third meeting of the Ministerial Committee for the China Unit, which reviewed progress on the implementation of the Egypt-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Madbouly said the growing level of investment reflects the continued expansion of economic ties between Cairo and Beijing, noting that a large number of Chinese companies are now operating in Egypt across a wide range of sectors. He added that the figure demonstrates the Chinese business community's confidence in Egypt's investment environment and the opportunities available in the country.
According to Cabinet spokesperson Mohamed El-Homsany, the committee reviewed a pipeline of joint projects and investment opportunities with Chinese partners across priority sectors, including industrial development, seawater desalination, advanced technology localisation, telecommunications, transport, mining, clean energy, specialised chemical industries, engineering industries, agriculture, and the expansion of Egyptian agricultural exports.
The committee also reviewed progress on existing Egypt-China projects and discussed additional opportunities to deepen cooperation across strategic sectors. According to the government, the proposed projects are expected to support sustainable development by encouraging technology transfer, attracting additional Chinese investment, strengthening local manufacturing and expanding economic cooperation between the two countries.
