Charcoal Burning & Barbecuing Banned at Flamingo Beach

Charcoal burning and barbecuing are now prohibited at Flamingo Beach in Ras Al Khaimah, with the restriction taking effect on September 10th.

The Public Services Department said the measure is intended to protect public safety, preserve the beach’s appearance and keep the area clean and accessible for visitors.

The restriction comes ahead of the cooler winter months, when outdoor gatherings and beach barbecues typically increase. Authorities highlighted the risks associated with poorly disposed charcoal and barbecue waste, particularly hot coals that can retain heat long after use and cause burns to people walking barefoot on the sand.

Similar restrictions are already in place at other outdoor destinations in the UAE. At Jebel Hafeet in Al Ain, barbecuing is prohibited under Abu Dhabi regulations governing public appearance, health and tranquillity.

Failure to comply with public-area prohibition signs in Abu Dhabi can result in fines of AED 1,000 for a first offence, AED 2,000 for a second and AED 4,000 for a third.

Earlier this year, Ras Al Khaimah Police also ran a month-long beach safety campaign across areas including Shaam, Al Rams, Al Mairid and Ras Al Khaimah, focusing on child supervision, water safety and compliance with lifeguard instructions.
