AI Farming System in Abu Dhabi Cuts Energy Use by 60%

An AI-enabled farming system deployed in Abu Dhabi has reduced greenhouse energy consumption by more than 60% and lowered cooling water use by around 37% without affecting production levels. The results were recorded during field deployments of the “Advanced Agriculture 4.0” system, which is being rolled out by the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority as part of a wider digital transformation of the agricultural sector.
The platform integrates sensors, Internet of Things devices, data analytics and automated control systems to monitor farm conditions in real time. Data collected on variables such as soil moisture and temperature is analysed to support more precise irrigation and reduce water waste.
Artificial intelligence tools within the system are used to predict environmental conditions, including heat stress, and guide crop management decisions. Cloud-based infrastructure allows for continuous monitoring and remote adjustments, improving operational efficiency.
Officials said the system represents a shift towards data-driven farming, with applications extending beyond resource savings to include improved production stability, reduced post-harvest losses and more efficient supply chain management.
