Over 31 Million Trees Planted in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province

Saudi Arabia has planted over 31 million trees in the Eastern Province, marking a milestone in its nationwide afforestation efforts. The initiative was part of the broader Saudi Green Initiative, which aims to plant 10 billion trees across the Kingdom, with 600 million targeted by 2030.

The project is being led by the National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification, in collaboration with 51 other entities. The long-term goal is to rehabilitate more than 7.9 million hectares of land and plant 1.5 billion trees in the province by 2100.

The initiative also helps prevent sand encroachment in vulnerable farming areas facing soil degradation. It uses native plant species in afforestation efforts to preserve the ecological balance of local habitats. Additionally, the centre collaborates with the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture to organise the National Afforestation Season.
