Brazilian Illustration Style Shapes Kin Suki’s Vibrant New Collection

In a market dominated by uniformity, Kin Suki stands out with a simple premise: tableware can be both functional and expressive. The brand’s name draws from Kintsugi, the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with precious metals. Just as Kintsugi celebrates individuality within unity, Kin Suki’s plates embrace variation—each piece is unique, yet connected through colour, pattern, or concept.
The newest collection, KIN SUKI X MAYKA, expands that vision through a collaboration with fashion brand Mayka. The choice was intentional: both brands share the belief that style extends beyond the wardrobe. “We collaborated to show that style goes beyond your wardrobe. It’s reflected in every aspect of your life—your home, the details you choose, the art you display. Every choice tells a story about who you are,” says founder Salma Shehata.
For this summer collection, Kin Suki and Mayka turned to the Brazilian illustration style, translating its bright contrasts and joyful energy into limited-edition plates. “This vibrant illustration style immediately resonated with us. Its bold colours and joyful forms felt like the perfect expression of summer—bright, uplifting, and full of energy,” Shehata explains. To ensure authenticity, they collaborated with a Brazilian artist, grounding the designs in the culture that inspired them. The result is a series of plates that feel hand-painted, alive with texture, and designed to bring cheer and rhythm to everyday dining.
Previous Kin Suki collections explored diverse visual languages—geometric minimalism defined by symmetry and clean lines, or more classic designs accented with delicate gold rims—each conceived to appeal to different sensibilities. With KIN SUKI X MAYKA, the brand leans fully into colour, playfulness, and lifestyle, underlining its ambition to create not just tableware, but objects that make the home a reflection of personal style.
Looking ahead, Kin Suki plans to expand beyond plates into curated home styling. “We want to create elements that make the curation of the home really easy…so even though it looks like it took hours to style, that’s not the case,” says Shehata. This points to a long-term vision where thoughtful design infuses every layer of domestic life.
Now a family-run business, Kin Suki continues to develop its collections with care and intention. Each family member contributes to different aspects of the brand, ensuring that every piece remains thoughtfully crafted and connected to the wider vision of variety, artistry, and refinement. On advice for emerging designers, Shehata encourages: “Don’t be afraid to put something different out there. Sometimes people need to see it before they realise they like it; in the end, you will always find your audience.”
