University of Sharjah Tops UAE in Four Subjects in 2026 Rankings

The University of Sharjah has ranked first in the United Arab Emirates across four academic disciplines in the Times Higher Education Subject Rankings 2026, according to results released this week. The leading subjects are law, social sciences, physical sciences, and arts and humanities.
Law entered the Times Higher Education subject tables for the first time, placing in the 176–200 global band. Social sciences ranked within the 201–250 range worldwide, while physical sciences also placed in the 201–250 global bracket. Arts and humanities ranked in the 301–400 global range, retaining its position as the top discipline nationally for the second consecutive year.
Beyond the four first-place subjects, the rankings highlight strong performance across additional fields. Health and medical sciences ranked second nationally and advanced to the 201–250 global band. Computer science placed second locally and 251–300 globally. Education studies ranked third nationally within the 201–250 global range, while business and economics also placed third locally and 201–250 worldwide. Engineering ranked third nationally with a global position in the 251–300 band.
Within the four top-ranked disciplines, social sciences maintained its national lead while improving its global position to 201–250. Arts and humanities continued its national lead for the second year, while the law ranking marked the subject’s first appearance in the tables at a global level. Physical sciences led nationally with a placement in the 201–250 global range.
The Times Higher Education Subject Rankings assess universities across a range of performance indicators, including teaching, research environment, research quality, industry engagement, and international outlook.
