Unified Smart System to Renew Passports & ID Cards Launched in UAE
Part of the Zero Government Bureaucracy programme, the unified interface renews both documents together and updates data and photos once, even if the Emirates ID has under six months left.
The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security has begun rolling out a unified smart service that allows Emirati citizens to renew their passport and Emirates ID in a single, consolidated process. The move is part of the second phase of the national “Zero Government Bureaucracy (ZGB)” programme. Under the new system, citizens can renew both documents together — even if their Emirates ID remains valid — through a single online journey. The platform consolidates personal-data updates, photo uploads and payment steps so applicants no longer have to submit information twice. Authorities say the new process will slash renewal times by at least 50% and reduce inquiries and service-centre traffic by roughly 40%. The streamlined service is designed to eliminate redundant procedures and improve user convenience. The unified renewal service aligns with earlier 2025 reforms extending the passport renewal window: citizens can now renew passports up to one year before they expire — doubling the previous six-month window.
