The bulletin details social participation, physical activity and digital use among older residents, including 86.9% of men and 78% of women using smartphones or computers.

91% of Elderly People in Saudi Arabia Satisfied With Their Lives

Ninety one percent of people aged 60 and above in Saudi Arabia are satisfied with their lives, according to the General Authority for Statistics’ 2025 Elderly Statistics Bulletin. The elderly population stands at about 1.7 million, representing 4.8% of the total population. Within this group, Saudis constitute 69%, with males at 57% and females at 43%.

The bulletin recorded that 7% of elderly respondents identified as neutral on life satisfaction, while 2% expressed dissatisfaction. On social participation among elderly Saudis, the rate of active participation reached 63.4% for males and 57.3% for females. Irregular participation was 26.5% for males and 30.6% for females, and 11% of both genders reported not taking part in social activities or family events.

The survey found that physical activity declines with age among older residents. The percentage of those who exercise was approximately 42.6% in the 60 to 64 age group, 36.1% in the 65 to 69 age group, 24.2% in the 70 to 74 age group, and 9.6% among those aged 85 and above.

On daily living and support, 40.6% of elderly Saudi men were self reliant in performing their daily tasks and meeting their needs, while 30.9% relied on their children and 25.8% on their spouses. Among elderly women, 40.9% relied on their children, 36.5% were self reliant, and 5.7% relied on their husbands. In terms of digital integration, 86.9% of elderly men used a smartphone or computer compared to 78% of elderly women. Using technology to access services or perform tasks stood at 75.7% for men and 58.7% for women.
