USD 7 Billion High-Speed Rail to Link Jeddah, Riyadh & Dammam

A USD 7 billion high-speed rail corridor will link Jeddah, Riyadh and Dammam, connecting the Red Sea to the Arabian Gulf and cutting Riyadh to Jeddah train travel to under four hours.

The Land Bridge will run nearly 1,500 kilometres between Jeddah and Dammam via Riyadh, reducing the current car journey time of about 12 hours between Riyadh and Jeddah to under four hours by rail.

As part of Saudi Vision 2030, the rail network is planned to expand from 5,300 kilometres to over 8,000. The Saudi Railway Company plans a network of freight and passenger stations linking King Abdullah Port with major industrial cities, particularly Yanbu. As part of its modernisation drive, the company has ordered 15 new trains capable of speeds up to 200 kilometres per hour.

Alongside the Land Bridge, Saudi Arabia is preparing to launch Dream of the Desert, a 1,290 kilometre luxury train between Riyadh and Qurayyat. Plans also include hydrogen-powered trains. More than 2.6 million passengers used Saudi trains in the second quarter of 2025.
