Surplus Iftar Meals Worth SAR 896,000 Preserved in Madinah
A volunteer-led project preserved surplus iftar meals to reduce food waste across Madinah.
Surplus iftar meals valued at SAR 896,000 were preserved in Madinah under a project designed to reduce food waste during Ramadan.
The initiative focused on collecting and managing excess food from iftar gatherings across the city through a coordinated system aimed at preventing avoidable disposal. Operations were supported by a dedicated fleet of eight specialised vehicles alongside teams of volunteers deployed across Madinah. In total, 960 volunteers contributed around 4,800 volunteer hours to manage the collection and handling of surplus meals.
The operational model combined vehicle logistics with on-the-ground volunteer teams to ensure that excess iftar food was handled quickly and safely within an organised framework.
