Saudi Arabia Adopts 3D Laser Scanning to Investigate Traffic Accidents
The National Transportation Safety Center introduces 3D scanning to improve accident analysis.

The National Transportation Safety Center has introduced 3D laser scanning technology to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of traffic accident investigations across the Kingdom. The new system will support incident analysis across all transport sectors by enabling detailed digital reconstructions of crash sites.
Using laser-based scanning tools, specialised teams can now document accident scenes with millimetre precision, capturing vehicle positions and environmental conditions in real time. These digital models offer investigators a clearer understanding of the causes and dynamics of collisions, allowing for evidence-based assessments and recommendations.
According to the Center, this upgrade marks a shift toward data-driven safety analysis in line with Saudi Arabia’s broader Vision 2030 strategy. The integration of advanced technology into transport operations aims to improve national safety standards while modernising public services.
