Renewable Energy Projects Move Forward at Jabal Galala
Wind and solar plans advance as site conditions support large-scale clean energy generation.
Implementation steps have begun for wind and solar energy projects at Jabal Galala, as part of efforts to expand clean energy generation capacity.
The developments follow a field visit by Kamel El Wazir, Minister of Transport, and Mahmoud Essmat, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, where potential project sites were assessed.
Officials inspected areas at elevations reaching 1,800 metres above sea level, where wind speeds of around 15 metres per second and lower temperatures were recorded, supporting suitability for wind power generation.
The plans involve coordination with the New and Renewable Energy Authority and the Canal Electricity Distribution Company, with discussions covering the integration of solar stations alongside wind farms to optimise costs and efficiency.
Proposed connection points were identified to link the new projects with existing wind facilities in Zafarana, alongside defining transmission routes to connect to the national electricity grid.
The projects form part of a broader strategy to diversify the energy mix and reduce reliance on fossil fuels, with a target of generating 45% of electricity from renewable sources by 2028. J
abal Galala’s terrain, including open plateaus and elevated areas, has been identified as suitable for the deployment of large-scale renewable energy infrastructure.
