Prince Mohammed bin Salman Project Restores Al-Duwaid Mosque

The Al-Duwaid village mosque in Saudi Arabia’s Northern Borders region has been restored under the Prince Mohammed bin Salman Project for the Development of Historical Mosques, reopening for worship after years of closure. The renovation expanded the mosque’s footprint from 137.5 to 156.01 square metres and set total capacity at 54 worshippers, reinstating its role as a place of prayer for the local community.

A central landmark in Al-Duwaid, the mosque is more than 80 years old in a village historically known for commercial activity and for hosting one of the Kingdom’s oldest airports. The restoration works were designed to balance traditional architectural authenticity with modern technology to support sustainability while preserving the building’s historical character. The project was carried out by specialised Saudi firms and engineers and aligns with Vision 2030 objectives to showcase and safeguard Saudi Arabia’s cultural and religious heritage.
