The newly formed National Anti-Narcotics Authority will act as a federal entity under Cabinet affiliation, tasked with cracking down on drug smuggling and addiction.
President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has launched a new standalone authority to address illegal narcotics.
The newly formed National Anti-Narcotics Authority will act as a federal entity under Cabinet affiliation, tasked with cracking down on drug smuggling and the illegal trade in chemical substances. It will also address treatment and rehabilitation for people struggling with addiction.
Chaired by Sheikh Zayed bin Hamad bin Hamdan Al Nahyan, the authority is expected to work closely with law enforcement, judicial institutions, and customs authorities to investigate and intercept smuggling routes, dismantle trafficking networks, and ensure prosecutions meet legal standards.
The agency’s mandate extends to controlling chemical substances commonly diverted for non-medical use. This includes developing regulatory procedures around licensing, trade, and customs clearance to prevent their misuse.
