Egypt Bans Women from Traveling Abroad for Domestic & Service Jobs
Egypt’s Ministry of Labour has issued new binding regulations prohibiting Egyptian women from traveling abroad to work in a number of specific roles, including domestic work and service jobs in cafés.
The directive, which applies to all overseas recruitment agencies, is part of a broader effort to regulate the employment of Egyptian women abroad and ensure that job opportunities align with “officially approved professional standards”.
According to the ministry, the move aims to better organise the labour market for Egyptian women while tightening oversight on the types of roles being offered internationally.
The ministry added that the decision was based on reports monitored by its Labour Representation Office in Riyadh.
Recruitment companies are now required to comply with the new rules, which effectively block the processing of travel arrangements for women seeking employment in the banned categories.
